Primary responsibilities:
Organize and control day-to-day operations of the Laboratory in their respective sections in accordance with order requirements, client standard operating procedures, industry standards, OGC standards or policy directives.
To act as a team leader when the laboratory operates in shift systems. To ensure accurate and timely completion of test results, and that no unnecessary delay occurs.
Liaison with Operation and Customer, fulfilling their requirements and expectations.
Specific responsibilities:
Organize and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Laboratory in their respective sections. This includes allocation of tests to technicians, sample pick-up, and manpower planning.
Supervise and schedule the activities of the Laboratory staff.
Prepare worksheets and ensure client requirements are met. Verify test results/records of analysis and initiate re-test when necessary. To check and ensure that all data is complete in the datasheet.
Coordinate and assign staff to work overtime when asked by a supervisor or other team leader of another shift.
In liaison with the Laboratory Manager, to raise and update standard and in-house test methods and procedures.
Assist in the development and training of staff to the required levels of expertise and administer performance appraisal methods.
To support the company at meetings with clients in order to give technical advice and resolve problems.
Coordinate activities to ensure that the Laboratory provides a high standard of service and satisfies clients' needs.
To recognize that the Laboratory Quality System is fully implemented as per the QA Manual.
Ensure that all operations are conducted within the client's and recognized industry health and safety regulations.
Ensure that good housekeeping is maintained at all times in the laboratory.
To contribute to the planning and policy of the laboratory.
Perform a one-off analysis when required.
Perform any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor, including testing and analysis during periods of heavy workload. To be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for queries from lab staff.
To attend overseas assignments when required
Requirement:
Diploma in Science or an Engineering-related field
3 years of relevant experience, preferably in the Oil, Gas & Chemical industry.
Experience in laboratory application/engineering-related application.
Able to coordinate and motivate a team member towards a common goal
Able to work independently and to coordinate several activities simultaneously
Able to interact with all levels of management, affiliates, suppliers, and clients
Good communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
Acts quickly and decisively; able to make tough calls
Works well under pressure, challenges the status quo
Fluent English
Applies judgment and acts according to the SGS standards of ethics and integrity
Knowledge of ISO systems and procedures
