Temp Part-time Youth Worker, Student Management (Secondary School) - #1163478
Cornerstone Global Partners
This position will start off as about 4 months contract.
Location:
Peirce Secondary School, at Upper Thomson Rd
Duties:
1. Student Mentoring and Case Support
The Youth Worker will provide regular mentoring and check-ins for selected students who require support in areas such as self-management, emotional regulation, attendance, punctuality, peer relationships and compliance with school expectations. Through these sessions, the Youth Worker will help students reflect on their behaviour, set improvement goals and develop more positive decision-making habits.
The Youth Worker may also support basic case follow-up by gathering relevant observations, documenting student progress and providing updates to the Student Management Committee, Year Heads and other relevant school personnel.
2. Detention and Restorative Follow-Up
The Youth Worker will support detention sessions by ensuring that students are meaningfully engaged during the assigned period. This includes guiding students through reflection tasks, restorative conversations and improvement planning.
The Youth Worker will also help students understand the consequences of their actions, identify better choices moving forward and complete restitution activities where appropriate. Attendance and behavioural observations during detention sessions may be recorded to support follow-up by the school.
3. In-House Suspension and Pull-Out Support
The Youth Worker will help maintain a structured and purposeful environment for students placed on in-house suspension or temporary pull-out support. The focus will be on ensuring that time away from class remains developmental rather than purely punitive.
Support may include supervising assigned work, facilitating reflection activities, guiding students through re-entry planning and helping them prepare for successful reintegration into lessons.
4. Recess, Lunch and Campus Engagement
The Youth Worker will provide a visible adult presence during recess, lunch and other high-movement periods. This includes engaging students informally, supporting lower secondary routines, identifying students who appear disengaged or isolated, and helping to de-escalate minor peer tensions where appropriate.
Through regular presence during unstructured times, the Youth Worker can build rapport with students and provide early intervention before behavioural concerns escalate.
5. Intervention Programmes for At-Risk Students
The Youth Worker will support the planning and facilitation of structured intervention programmes for students who require additional behavioural or socio-emotional support. These programmes will focus on self-regulation, anger management, peer relationships, conflict management, motivation, responsible decision-making and school engagement.
