About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Platform Operations Engineer to maintain, support, and modernise our on-premises infrastructure platforms that power mission-critical systems. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in ensuring platform reliability, operational stability, and driving cutting-edge infrastructure automation.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Management: Maintain and support robust compute, storage, virtualization, and supporting systems across development, staging, and production environments.
Modernization & Automation: Implement infrastructure enhancement initiatives, platform standards, and automation practices to boost operational efficiency and reliability.
Virtualization Lifecycle: Oversee virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix), including capacity monitoring, performance optimization, and lifecycle management.
Maintenance & Patching: Design and execute automated patching and upgrade strategies to minimize service disruption.
Technical Support: Deliver L2/L3 technical support, driving incident management, root cause analysis, and swift problem resolution.
Resilience & Security: Enforce robust security controls (access management, system hardening, compliance) and maintain high-availability (HA), backup, and disaster recovery (DR) solutions.
Cloud & Hybrid Migration: Support workload assessments, migration planning, and post-migration operational support for cloud and hybrid environments.
Collaboration & Documentation: Work closely with application, network, and vendor teams to ensure end-to-end service performance. Develop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and runbooks.
Job Requirements
Experience & QualificationsEducation: Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
Experience: 3–5 years of relevant experience in infrastructure or platform operations within an enterprise environment.
Soft Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
Vendor Management: Familiarity with managing vendors and IT contracts.
Virtualization: Hands-on experience with platforms like VMware vSphere, Hyper-V, or Nutanix.
Storage & Backup: Proficiency with enterprise storage (SAN, NAS) and backup solutions (e.g., Commvault, Veeam, Cohesity).
OS Administration: Strong expertise in Red Hat Linux and/or Windows Server administration.
Networking: Solid understanding of data centre network fundamentals, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing/switching, firewalls, load balancing, and network segmentation.
Cloud Awareness: Familiarity with hybrid infrastructure concepts and cloud platforms (AWS or Azure).
Automation & IaC: Experience with automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef) and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for automated provisioning.
Scripting: Proficiency in Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
Monitoring & Observability: Experience setting up or maintaining tools like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Dynatrace, or Splunk.
Containers: Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
