About the client:

Harmony is the largest gold producer by volume in South Africa and is a significant operator of gold tailings retreatment facilities. In Papua New Guinea, Harmony owns and operates the Hidden Valley mine and owns 50% of the Tier 1 Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project. In Australia, Harmony owns the high-grade CSA copper mine in Cobar, NSW and is constructing the Eva Copper Mine in Cloncurry, QLD. These assets are supported by the Harmony Australasia regional corporate office located in Milton, Brisbane.

The Eva Copper Mine is a significant and strategically important project for Harmony marking a major milestone in the company's copper growth strategy and its long-term commitment to Northwest Queensland. The mine will have a minimum life of 15 years and will involve mining multiple open cut pits providing copper bearing ore to a concentrator. Front-end engineering design is complete, and mine construction is expected to take up to 30 months with first production targeted for the second half of the 2028 calendar year.

About the role:

The Environment Officer is based on site ensuring compliance of the Eva Copper Mine Project with environmental obligations and Harmony Group commitments. You will be required to assess, monitor and implement environmental management strategies across site-based works and through project design that seek to minimise the impact of the project on the environment.

This role will be DIDO from local communities or FIFO from Brisbane or Townsville to our site in Cloncurry NW QLD, with local candidates highly regarded. Local employees are paid a regional allowance and a competitive salary. Roster is 8 days on, 6 days off.

Please note this is a maximum term role aligned with the project completion and close out, anticipated to be 31 May 2028. However, there is a possibility the role could become a permanent position once the mine is fully operational.

Experience Required:

• Bachelor of Environmental Science or related subject
• Proficient with MS Office suite of products.
• Flexible approach to work activities / ability to respond to changing priorities.
• Strong data management, interpretation, analysis and reporting skills.
• Ability to translate technical concepts and findings to varying audiences via different media (for example: pre-start meetings, workplace inspections, stakeholder consultation meetings etc
• Previous mining experience is desirable but not essential
