Job Summary
Accomplish mechanical design proposal, costing and solution of automatic and semi-automatic assembly, manufacturing, and test systems. Develop new technology solutions for marketing and cost savings purposes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
New Inquiries
Lead mechanical design and cost estimation for new project inquiries.
Understand the specifications of the inquiries from Mechanical Engineering perspective.
Develop comprehensive mechanical design solution/proposal including cycle time studies, structure concept and automation mechanism.
Liaise with vendors and suppliers for component selections and costing.
Compile mechanical design proposals and costing in professional presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint for internal review and customer presentations.
Mechanical Design Solution
Execute mechanical design for assigned projects and products in alignment with project scope, budget, and timeline.
Ensure mechanical design is within project Scope of Work (SOW), budget and schedule.
Create accurate 3D, 2D models, detailed drawings and Bill of Material (BOM) using established templates; maintain timely updates for revisions.
Collaborate with vendors and suppliers for appropriate component sourcing.
Work closely with electrical and software engineering teams to ensure integrated design solutions.
Participate in project and design review meetings.
Support purchasing and production teams throughout the project lifecycle to ensure successful design implementation.
Conduct post-project reviews to identify areas for design improvement.
New Developments
Gather feedback from project execution teams to identify design improvement opportunities.
Integrate enhancements into further project proposals.
Collaborate on R&D initiatives and Proof of Concept (POC) testing with internal teams and external partners.
Investigate emerging technologies to enhance automation capabilities.
Establish mechanical design standards and best practices, including the ERX platform.
Develop and maintain a centralized component and cost database.
Team Support and Other Duties
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to peers and junior engineers.
Assist in preparing documentation and training materials.
Support the evaluation and development of mechanical engineering and assembly staff.
Undertake special projects and assignments as requested.
Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/Mechatronic/Automation Engineering and at least five years of experience in custom automation.
Proficient in 3D CAD software, particularly SolidWorks and/or Creo.
Strong understanding of mechanical systems in automation, including electromechanical integration.
Skilled in interpreting and analyzing technical documents, scientific literature, and financial reports relevant to engineering projects.
Strong ability to prepare and deliver professional presentations and produce high-quality technical documentation.
Applied knowledge of advanced mathematical and statistical concepts such as variance analysis, correlation techniques, reliability testing.
Prior hands-on experience in designing and implementing custom automation systems is highly advantageous.
Willingness to travel occasionally, including for machine installation, testing, and commissioning at client or partner sites.
