About the role

Advanced VetCare Veterinary Centre is seeking dedicated Emergency Vet Techs and Patient Care Assistants to join our dynamic team in the East Region. This is a full-time position working within our fast-paced emergency and critical care environment. As an Emergency Vet Tech or Patient Care Assistant, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional emergency veterinary care and support services to animals in critical conditions. Your work will directly impact animal welfare outcomes and contribute to the success of our emergency veterinary services. Key responsibilities

  • Assisting veterinarians during emergency procedures, surgeries and diagnostic imaging, including radiography and ultrasound

  • Monitoring and recording vital signs of emergency and critically ill patients throughout treatment and recovery

  • Performing venipuncture, administering medications and intravenous fluids under veterinary supervision

  • Preparing and sterilising surgical instruments and equipment to maintain biosecurity standards

  • Providing hands-on patient care including wound cleaning, dressing changes, catheter care and patient comfort measures

  • Maintaining detailed and accurate medical records and treatment logs for emergency cases

  • Supporting triage procedures to assess and prioritise patients based on medical urgency

  • Cleaning, disinfecting and maintaining emergency treatment areas and kennels to the highest hygiene standards

  • Communicating compassionately with distressed pet owners during emergency situations

  • Working collaboratively with the veterinary team to ensure continuity of care and optimal patient outcomes


What we're looking for

  • Relevant qualification as a Veterinary Technician, Veterinary Nurse or Patient Care Assistant, or equivalent experience in emergency veterinary medicine

  • Proven experience working in emergency, critical care or fast-paced veterinary environments

  • Strong knowledge of emergency veterinary procedures, patient monitoring techniques and basic life support protocols

  • Competency in handling stressed, injured and fearful animals with confidence, compassion and safety awareness

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to provide emotional support to concerned pet owners during emergencies

  • Attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate medical records in a high-pressure environment

  • Physical fitness and the ability to lift, restrain and handle animals safely and compassionately

  • Flexible attitude towards shift work, including nights, weekends and on-call availability

  • Current knowledge of health and safety regulations and infection control standards in veterinary settings

  • Passion for animal welfare and a commitment to providing the highest standard of emergency care

  • Preferred: Experience in advanced nursing skills such as catheter placement, blood collection and anaesthetic monitoring
