About the Role

We are seeking a talented Marine Electrical Engineer to join our team in the Pioneer West Region. This full-time position plays a critical role in supporting shipyard operations, including vessel new-build, repair, conversion, retrofit, and maintenance projects. As a Marine Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical systems on marine vessels and offshore structures within a shipyard environment.

Your expertise will contribute to the successful execution of shipyard projects, ensuring compliance with maritime regulations, safety standards, project specifications, and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and specify marine electrical systems and equipment for vessel new-build, repair, retrofit, and conversion projects.

  • Manage and supervise electrical installation works in the shipyard, ensuring compliance with project schedules, quality standards, and safety requirements.

  • Conduct commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical systems, including power generation, distribution, propulsion, navigation, communication, and auxiliary systems.

  • Perform inspections and fault diagnosis of marine electrical equipment during vessel repairs, dry-docking, and maintenance activities.

  • Coordinate with shipyard production teams, subcontractors, owners, classification societies, and project stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.

  • Review and prepare electrical drawings, schematics, technical specifications, method statements, and project documentation.

  • Ensure all electrical works comply with applicable maritime regulations, classification society requirements, and shipyard safety procedures.

  • Conduct site surveys and technical assessments for repair, upgrade, and retrofit projects.

  • Monitor project progress, identify technical issues, and implement corrective actions to minimize delays and operational disruptions.

  • Provide technical guidance and support to supervisors, technicians, electricians, and commissioning teams.

  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Harbour Acceptance Tests (HAT), and Sea Trials where required.

  • Stay updated on developments in marine electrical technology, shipbuilding practices, and industry standards.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in marine electrical engineering within a shipyard, shipbuilding, ship repair, offshore, or marine engineering environment.

  • Strong knowledge of marine electrical systems, including power generation, switchboards, distribution systems, motors, drives, lighting, control systems, and automation.

  • Experience in vessel new-build, repair, retrofit, conversion, or offshore projects.

  • Proficiency in electrical design software and CAD tools commonly used in marine and shipyard applications.

  • Familiarity with international maritime regulations and classification society requirements, including IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, and Bureau Veritas.

  • Strong understanding of shipyard safety practices, permit-to-work systems, and electrical safety procedures.

  • Experience in commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting marine electrical systems.

  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and project coordination skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.

  • Strong communication and technical reporting skills.

  • Relevant marine industry certifications or MEO Class 4 qualification will be an advantage.
