Role Summary
Motorist is a leading automotive platform in Singapore serving vehicle owners across multiple touchpoints including buying, selling, financing, servicing and ownership management.
The Head of Insurance will lead and scale Motorist’s insurance business, owning the overall strategy, revenue and operations of the insurance division. The role will be responsible for driving insurance sales, managing insurer relationships, ensuring regulatory compliance and delivering strong customer outcomes.
This role is both operational and entrepreneurial. The successful candidate will build and grow the insurance vertical by unlocking opportunities within Motorist’s large existing user base while expanding into new insurance products and partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
Insurance Business Growth
Define and lead the strategy to scale Motorist’s insurance business, targeting at least 5x growth within the next three years.
Drive higher penetration within Motorist’s existing user base, where insurance adoption is currently low, by improving conversion, renewal rates and customer engagement.
Identify new revenue opportunities through new products, partnerships and distribution strategies.
Insurance Sales Leadership
Lead, coach and manage a team of insurance sales executives responsible for renewal sales, upselling and cross-selling.
Design and implement effective sales processes, scripts and objection-handling frameworks to improve conversion rates.
Plan and execute renewal campaigns across channels such as calls, SMS, email and digital channels.
Insurance Partnerships and Product Strategy
Build and maintain strong relationships with insurers, underwriting teams and intermediaries to secure competitive products, pricing and incentives.
Negotiate commercial terms and manage insurer partnerships to support business growth.
Collaborate with insurers to develop attractive insurance offerings tailored to Motorist customers.
Operations and Customer Experience
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the insurance department including sales workflows, lead allocation, service levels and escalation management.
Handle complex cases, high-value customers, complaints or disputes while ensuring fair outcomes and protecting the company’s reputation.
Continuously improve operational efficiency and service quality.
Compliance and Governance
Ensure the insurance function operates in full compliance with GIA and MAS regulatory requirements, internal policies and any appointed representative obligations.
Maintain strong documentation, sales governance and customer disclosure practices.
Work closely with compliance and management to uphold regulatory standards.
Cross-Sell and Ecosystem Opportunities
Develop cross-selling strategies that leverage Motorist’s broader ecosystem including vehicle transactions, loans, warranties, servicing and ownership lifecycle services.
Identify opportunities to expand beyond motor insurance into non-motor personal lines and selected commercial insurance products where appropriate.
Build bundled or embedded insurance offerings integrated into Motorist’s platform.
Data, Performance and Reporting
Track and analyse key business metrics such as renewal rate, conversion rate, average premium, commission income, attachment rate and customer retention.
Prepare regular reports and forecasts for management on performance, pipeline, risks and opportunities.
Use data insights to drive continuous improvement in sales performance and operational processes.
Product and Digital Collaboration
Work closely with product, technology and marketing teams to improve online quotation flows, digital purchase journeys and campaign effectiveness.
Identify opportunities to embed insurance within Motorist’s platform experience and customer lifecycle.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or a related field.
Minimum 7–10 years of experience in general insurance, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership or team lead role, preferably in motor or personal lines insurance.
Strong understanding of Singapore motor insurance products including policy structures, no-claim discount (NCD), underwriting considerations and common add-ons.
Familiarity with regulatory requirements and good practices in insurance distribution in Singapore, including GIA and MAS guidelines, needs analysis and disclosure requirements.
Relevant insurance certifications recognised by MAS (such as BCP, PGI, CGI or equivalent) are required.
Experience managing and coaching small to mid-sized sales teams, including performance management and incentive structures.
Strong commercial acumen with experience managing revenue targets, commissions, pricing discussions and insurer negotiations.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence internal teams and external partners.
Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to build and scale a new business vertical within a technology platform environment.
