Role Overview

The Assistant Manager is responsible for overseeing the entire Mechanical & Electrical production process, ensuring timely delivery of projects in line with customer requirements, quality standards, and budgetary controls. This role involves coordinating with the engineering, sales, purchasing, and QA teams to ensure smooth operations from receipt of engineering documents to delivery and customer acceptance.

Key Responsibilities

1. Production Planning & Control

·       Assist the Manager in reviewing and validating engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical documents to ensure accuracy prior to production.

·       Contribute to developing, updating, and monitoring production schedules aligned with client delivery requirements.

·       Work closely with the Purchasing team to verify material specifications, delivery timelines, and supplier commitments.

·       Anticipate and highlight potential bottlenecks in manpower, material, or equipment availability, and propose corrective actions.

·       Support capacity planning to balance multiple project demands.

2. Operations Management

·       Supervise day-to-day production operations, ensuring smooth workflow, timely task execution, and effective resource utilization.

·       Ensure all production activities comply with company SOPs, safety requirements, and project-specific standards.

·       Support the planning and execution of internal FAT, QC checks, and assist during customer FAT sessions.

·       Monitor shop-floor performance, identifying inefficiencies and recommending process improvements to reduce cost and cycle time.

·       Assist in enforcing workplace safety, health, and environmental standards across production areas.

3. Quality Assurance

·       Collaborate with the QA team to ensure compliance with engineering and client specifications at all production stages.

·       Assist in reviewing quality control reports and making recommendations for acceptance or rejection of products.

·       Ensure timely closure of non-conformance reports (NCRs) and corrective actions.

·       Monitor quality KPIs and support initiatives to reduce rework, scrap, and warranty claims.

4. Team Leadership

·       Supervise and guide production supervisors and operators in achieving daily and weekly output targets.

·       Provide coaching, on-the-job training, and performance feedback to team members.

·       Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and safety awareness within the team.

·       Support the Manager in manpower planning, including recruitment, training, and performance appraisals.

·       Act as a bridge between the workforce and senior management, escalating issues where necessary while maintaining team morale.

5. Cross-Functional Coordination

·       Coordinate with Engineering for design clarifications, technical queries, and production feasibility checks.

·       Work with Procurement to ensure accurate material requisitions, supplier follow-ups, and timely delivery.

·       Liaise with Sales and Admin for project updates, client requests, and documentation flow.

·       Provide feedback to Engineering on practical challenges faced during production to improve future designs.

·       Participate in site surveys, customer meetings, or project handovers when required.

6. Reporting & Documentation

·       Prepare, update, and maintain accurate production reports, schedules, and KPIs for management review.

·       Ensure proper documentation of Purchase Requisition forms, FAT reports, delivery orders, and project close-out records.

·       Track and report on key metrics, including production efficiency, on-time delivery, cost variance, and quality performance.

·       Support audits (internal/external) by ensuring proper records are maintained and readily available.


Requirement

-          Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field

-          Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in manufacturing or related industries.

-          Proven track record in managing cross-border operations.

-          Strong P&L management and strategic planning skills.

-          Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership abilities.

-          Strategic thinker with a hands-on leadership approach.

-          Strong cross-cultural management skills.

-          Resilient, adaptable, and results-driven.

-          High integrity and commitment to excellence.

-          Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent).

-          Minimum 5–7 years’ experience in production management, preferably in M&E, fabrication, or engineering-related industries.

-          Strong knowledge of production planning, quality control, and project management.

-          Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

-          Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documents.

-          Proficient in MS Office; experience with ERP/Autocount systems is an advantage.
