Job Purpose
The Assistant Engineer will lead a team of Technical Officers to carry out Preventive Maintenance (PM), Corrective Maintenance (CM), Overhaul (OH), and Engineering Support (ES) on trains, depot systems, and workshop equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and comfortable transport services for commuters.
Responsibilities
Align with and act according to the organization’s vision, mission, service standards, and core values.
Maintain strong technical knowledge and skills across all maintenance activities and support ongoing staff training.
Lead and supervise a team of Technical Officers in conducting preventive and corrective maintenance, overhauls, troubleshooting, engineering analysis, investigations, and other assigned maintenance tasks on rolling stock, depot, and workshop equipment.
Assist in planning and coordinating staff deployment and shift rosters to optimize resource utilization.
Ensure all maintenance activities are performed in accordance with the latest work instructions, as well as quality, operational, and safety procedures, while upholding safety for self and others.
Ensure all tools, spare parts, and equipment used are in good working condition and properly calibrated where necessary.
Carry out train shunting and operate depot equipment, maintenance vehicles, and systems to support maintenance operations.
Verify and ensure accurate, timely, and factual recording of work activities in maintenance documentation and management systems.
Promptly report any abnormalities or non-compliance with established procedures or work instructions.
Apply KAIZEN methodologies (5M, 5S, and 5W) to identify inefficiencies, eliminate waste, and improve overall productivity and work value.
Support staff, contractors, and other personnel working on rolling stock and depot systems.
Assist during incidents, accidents, and emergencies as required.
Maintain high standards of housekeeping across all work areas.
Uphold strong work discipline and performance standards.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Work Experience
Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Technology/Engineering from a recognized institution.
Preferably 5 years of relevant experience in a rail or heavy engineering environment.
