Job Summary:
The Industrial Relations Executive will play a key role in developing and implementing the union's industrial relations strategy.  This involves providing expert advice, representation to members on a wide range of employment-related issues, negotiating collective agreements, and advocating for improved workplace standards.  The ideal candidate should possess a good understanding of labour laws, excellent communication and negotiation skills, and a commitment to the labour movement.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide advice and representation to members on a variety of employment-related issues, including grievances, disciplinary actions, and contract interpretation.
  • Conduct research and analysis on industry trends, collective bargaining agreements, and relevant legislation.
  • Develop and implement strategies for collective bargaining negotiations, including preparing proposals, conducting negotiations, and reaching agreements.
  • Represent the union in negotiations with employers, arbitration proceedings, and other forums.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with union members, employers, and government agencies.
  • Monitor and analyse legislative and regulatory developments that may impact members' rights and working conditions.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for union members and staff on industrial relations matters.
  • Supervisory roles within the Industrial Relations department.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the union's overall strategic plan.
  • Represent the union at internal and external meetings and conferences.


Qualifications:

  • Diploma / Bachelor's degree in Industrial Relations, Labor Studies, Human Resources, or a related field. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial relations, or HR experience with a focus in industrial relations and compensation and benefits. 
  • Extensive knowledge of labour laws and regulations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong leadership and mentorship skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant software applications.
