Responsibilities :
  • Lead negotiations with shipowners and brokers to secure tankers/VLGCs via spot chartering or Contracts of Affreightment (COA), delivering competitive and innovative freight solutions.
  • Ensure timely communication across global time zones for spot chartering activities, maintaining responsiveness outside standard business hours when necessary.
  • Recommend and implement strategic improvements to enhance overall profitability, including optimization of spot and COA negotiations, vessel allocation, and scheduling of loading and discharge operations.
  • Provide commercial and strategic guidance to traders by analyzing and reporting on freight market trends and dynamics to support sales and trading decisions.
  • Develop optimal vessel allocation strategies between spot and COA charters, considering factors such as market conditions, seasonality, vessel availability, and contractual obligations.
  • Coordinate closely with Operators to ensure vessel scheduling aligns with cargo programs, including oversight of pre-loading vetting processes and adherence to port restrictions.
  • Conduct thorough analysis of freight market trends and shipping economics to recommend cost-effective and innovative chartering strategies; monitor global market movements, vessel positions, and fixture rates.
  • Maintain and expand a strong network with shipowners and brokers through regular engagement, active market presence, and participation in industry events; manage chartering records and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders across various departments and joint ventures; handle additional assignments as required.
Requirements :
  • Chartering Experience: Over 5 years in tanker/VLGC chartering or freight desk roles within oil & gas trading or shipping companies.
  • Contract & Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of charter parties, laytime, demurrage, maritime law, upstream contracts, and petroleum industry terms.
  • Degree in Maritime studies / Law or relevant.
