About the Role:

A government agency’s digital innovation arm is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a dynamic and growing software engineering team. This role will balance technical leadership with people management, directly impacting meaningful national-level projects.

You will mentor a team of 5–6 engineers while contributing hands-on to code, system design, and product delivery, working in an environment that values agile practices, experimentation, and impact-driven development.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, providing technical guidance and career development support.

• Perform hands-on development (40%) alongside management responsibilities (60%).

• Drive design and architecture discussions for scalable, maintainable systems.

• Collaborate closely with Product Managers and Designers to deliver best-in-class digital products.

• Ensure best engineering practices are adopted including code reviews, CI/CD, test automation, and secure coding standards.

• Champion Agile development principles, promoting team autonomy and continuous improvement.

Tech Stack Exposure:

• Languages/Frameworks: TypeScript, Python, JavaScript (experience beyond these is welcome)

• Frontend: React

• Backend: NodeJS, SQL Databases, ElasticSearch

• Infrastructure: AWS (Government Commercial Cloud 2.0), Terraform

• Version Control: GitLab

Requirements:

• Strong technical background with proficiency in any modern programming language (TypeScript, Python, JavaScript preferred).

• Proven track record of leading and mentoring engineering teams (preferably 5 or more engineers).

• Minimum of 8 years of software development experience; at least 3 years in a leadership/management capacity.

• Hands-on coding and system design skills are a must (not purely managerial).

• Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure, modern web technologies, and software architecture best practices.

• Familiar with Agile development environments.
