The Defence Medical & Environmental Research Institute (DMERI) builds up technological capabilities for the protection against chemical and biological warfare agents. Environmental Molecular Biologist


In this role, you will:

  • Design and execute laboratory and field-based experiments to understand microbial communities from the environment
  • Optimise workflows leading to the generation of sequencing data and bioinformatics analysis
  • Analyse experimental data and communicate findings to stakeholders though reports and presentations


Requirements

  • Degree Degree / Masters / PhD in Life Sciences / Molecular Biology / Molecular Biotechnology / Microbiology
  • Proficient in nucleic acid extraction, purification, amplification, analysis and optimisation of protocols for challenging matrices
  • Proficient user / operator of commonly used DNA sequencing techniques
  • Willing to work in BSL3
  • Willing to conduct outdoor field experiments
  • Experience with common bioinformatics tools for analysing genomic and metagenomic datasets
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Motivated with keen interest in research, able to keep up-to-date with the latest developments in environmental microbial detection
