Senior Software Engineer (Java, SQL/PLSQL & Unix) - #1172016

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to develop, enhance and support enterprise applications within the banking and financial services domain. The role requires strong hands-on expertise in Java programming, Oracle/Sybase database development, SQL/PLSQL and Unix Shell scripting, with a focus on backend processing, batch operations, application reliability and production support.

Key Responsibilities

Analyse functional specifications and technical requirements to design, develop and enhance Java-based enterprise applications.

Develop and maintain Java components using Core Java, object-oriented programming (OOP), exception handling and collection frameworks.

Write, debug and optimise complex SQL queries, PL/SQL stored procedures, functions, packages and database triggers using Oracle or Sybase databases.

Develop Unix/Linux Shell scripts using Bash or KornShell (Ksh) for job scheduling, file processing, data validation and operational automation.

Implement and support batch processing workflows, scheduled jobs, data loading, file transfers and backend data reconciliation.

Troubleshoot application and database performance issues through log analysis, SQL execution plan review and root cause analysis.

Perform code reviews, unit testing, integration testing, defect resolution and deployment verification.

Support production incidents, change requests, application releases and service restoration, implementing corrective and preventive measures.

Automate repetitive operational tasks and improve batch processing efficiency, monitoring and error handling.

Maintain technical specifications, application flow diagrams, deployment procedures and production support documentation.

Collaborate with business analysts, database administrators, infrastructure teams and application support teams to deliver system enhancements.

Mandatory Skills & ExperienceBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline.

Minimum 8–10 years of relevant experience in software development and enterprise application support.

Strong hands-on programming experience in Java, Core Java and object-oriented programming.

Proficiency in SQL, PL/SQL, complex queries, stored procedures and database performance tuning.

Practical experience with Oracle or Sybase relational databases.

Strong Unix/Linux Shell scripting skills, including Bash or Ksh, file manipulation, process monitoring and job automation.

Experience in backend processing, batch jobs, scheduled workflows, file handling and data reconciliation.

Experience in application debugging, log analysis, production incident management and root cause analysis.

Knowledge of unit testing, integration testing, code reviews, version control and software release processes.

Familiarity with Agile/Scrum or Waterfall software development methodologies.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, troubleshooting and technical documentation skills.

Preferred SkillsExperience supporting banking and financial services applications, transaction processing or financial data systems.

Familiarity with job schedulers, batch monitoring and enterprise file transfer mechanisms.

Exposure to performance tuning, application monitoring and production change management.

Experience with Git, Maven, Jenkins or equivalent development and build tools.
