About LUMILENS

At Lumilens we are building the critical photonics infrastructure that powers tomorrow’s AI supercomputing. From chip-to-chip optical interconnects to scalable photonic engines, Lumilens is unlocking a new era of computing - faster, cooler, and massively more efficient.

We’re a well-funded startup backed by Mayfield and led by veterans who’ve built and scaled some of the most transformative technologies in the industry. At Lumilens, we’re developing high-speed photonics products purpose-built to power the future of AI infrastructure and high-performance computing.

This isn’t incremental innovation, it’s a ground-floor opportunity to rethink the optical layer from the silicon up. You’ll work alongside a team of world-class engineers solving some of the hardest challenges in scaling optical systems. If you're looking for mission, momentum, and the chance to make an outsized impact, jump on the rocket ship. We’re just getting started.

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced Test Maintenance Engineer to own the setup, qualification, and ongoing maintenance of test equipment supporting our 800G and 1.6T optical transceiver production lines. This role is responsible for keeping testers qualified, reliable, and available for high-volume manufacturing, driving tester uptime, and ensuring measurement accuracy through GR&R and SPC. The successful candidate will work closely with contract manufacturers, equipment suppliers, process engineering, and quality teams to bring new testers online and keep the production test floor running with minimal downtime.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set up, install, and qualify optical transceiver test systems for 800G and 1.6T products, including bring-up, calibration, and correlation to golden units/reference standards.
  • Own ongoing preventive and corrective maintenance of test equipment to maximize tester uptime and minimize unplanned downtime on the production line.
  • Plan and execute Gauge Repeatability & Reproducibility (GR&R) studies to validate measurement system accuracy and repeatability across testers and sites.
  • Implement and monitor statistical process control (SPC) on tester performance and test data to detect drift, excursions, and out-of-control conditions.
  • Troubleshoot and repair tester hardware, fixtures, and instrumentation (optical/electrical), driving root cause analysis on tester-related failures and false rejects.
  • Track and report tester uptime, MTBF/MTTR, and equipment health metrics; drive continuous improvement plans to meet availability and throughput targets.
  • Manage tester spare parts, calibration schedules, and preventive maintenance plans to support high-volume manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with process and product engineering to support new product introduction (NPI), tester capacity expansion, and test program changes.
  • Ensure all tester and test program changes are documented and managed under change control per established QMS requirements.
  • Partner with equipment suppliers on tester buy-off, upgrades, and field issue resolution.
  • Prepare equipment and test performance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field, plus relevant experience in optical transceiver test and equipment maintenance.
  • Direct experience in optical testing, with familiarity in optical transceiver test equipment (e.g., BERT/error detectors, optical power meters, TOSA/ROSA/module test stations, environmental chambers).
  • Hands-on experience with 800G and 1.6T (or comparable high-speed) optical transceiver test setups is strongly preferred.
  • Experience conducting GR&R studies and applying statistical process control (SPC) to test and measurement systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for tester hardware, fixtures, optical/electrical instrumentation, and automation.
  • Track record of driving tester uptime, MTBF/MTTR improvement, and equipment reliability in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to lead root cause investigations.
  • In-depth understanding of quality management systems and applicable quality standard requirements.
  • Data query and data analysis skills using statistical tools and techniques.
  • Ability to work well in a geographically diverse cross-functional team.
  • Good command of English communication, both verbal and written, including in-person and virtual presentation skills.
  • International travel required.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills; able to train and mentor peers when needed

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance
  • Professional development and certification opportunities
  • Access to cutting-edge optical/photonics test environments and tools
  • A collaborative, cross-functional team dedicated to solving some of the hardest challenges in photonics
  • Equal opportunity employer: All qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, color, religion, gender, identity, orientation, veteran status, disability, or any other legally protected status
