Location: West
Duration: 6 to 12 months (extendable/convertible depending on business needs and good performance)
Working Hours: Mon - Fri office hours
Salary: Up to $6000 (depending on qualification and experience)
Key Responsibilities
Scientific Content Development & Research Communications
Research, write, edit, and develop technical articles, feature stories, and profiles on research projects, publications, faculty, and students.
Conduct interviews with researchers and subject matter experts, translating complex scientific concepts into clear, engaging, and accessible content.
Ensure content is scientifically accurate, well-structured, and aligned with editorial standards.
Provide scientific and research insights during content development, copy reviews, and editorial discussions.
Content Planning & Stakeholder Management
Support the development and management of content pipelines and communication campaigns.
Identify and monitor potential story opportunities across research and academic activities.
Maintain a centralised content tracker to monitor story progress, deadlines, and upcoming opportunities.
Liaise with stakeholders to gather information, supporting materials, feedback, and approvals.
Coordination & Administrative Support
Coordinate interviews, meetings, and follow-up activities with researchers and stakeholders.
Manage the collection of drafts, images, supporting documents, and approval workflows.
Assist with editorial calendars, content planning, and meeting coordination.
Editorial & Publication Support
Prepare and support content for websites, newsletters, publications, and other communication platforms.
Proofread, fact-check, and refine content to ensure quality and consistency.
Contribute to the development of long-form publications, reports, magazines, and feature articles.
General Communications & Operational Support
Organise and maintain digital assets, including photos, videos, and content libraries.
Assist with communications scheduling, content planning, and timeline management.
Coordinate content submissions and ensure all materials are complete, organised, and ready for publication.
Update and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), workflows, and documentation.
Compile basic analytics and reports using data from digital platforms.
Liaise with external vendors and partners to support communications-related activities.
Assist with the implementation of new communication tools and platforms where required.
Support internal administrative processes and systems.
Assist with website content updates and ongoing maintenance.
Provide general communications, digital, and design support as required.
Guide interns or student assistants on assigned projects when needed (no direct supervisory responsibilities).
Requirements:
Degree in Science, Engineering, Research, Science Communication, Journalism, or a related field.
Strong interest in science communication, research storytelling, or technical writing.
Ability to understand, interpret, and simplify complex scientific or technical information for diverse audiences.
Excellent written communication skills with strong attention to accuracy, clarity, and detail.
Good storytelling ability, with the capability to develop engaging and well-structured narratives.
Confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills to engage effectively with researchers, faculty, and other stakeholders.
Well-organised and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
