We are looking for a compassionate and proactive Student Outreach Officer to support children with additional needs from disadvantaged backgrounds, especially those experiencing prolonged or irregular school absenteeism.
This is a meaningful opportunity for someone with experience in youth work, counselling, social work, education, psychology, or case support, and who is passionate about helping children reconnect with school, rebuild confidence, and strengthen their sense of belonging.
Key Responsibilities
Outreach & Family EngagementConduct outreach and home visits to students with prolonged or irregular school attendance.
Build rapport with students and their parents/caregivers to better understand barriers to attendance and engagement.
Maintain regular follow-up with identified students and families.
Support students returning from prolonged absenteeism through gradual reintegration plans.
Provide emotional and behavioural support during transitions back to school routines.
Engage students meaningfully during periods outside the classroom.
Help students build positive relationships with peers and trusted adults in school.
Work closely with school personnel and external partners to support case discussions and intervention planning.
Provide timely observations, engagement updates, and documentation of student progress.
Maintain accurate and confidential records of interventions and follow-up actions.
Support students during school-based or externally run programmes.
Facilitate small-group activities, reflective conversations, and engagement sessions.
Help create positive, motivating school experiences for students with higher needs.
Design and implement targeted engagement programmes to address absenteeism and disengagement.
Facilitate programmes independently and monitor their effectiveness.
Review and refine support approaches based on student needs and programme outcomes.
Requirements
Qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, Education, or a related discipline.
Prior experience in youth work, case management, student support, social services, or school-based support is preferred.
Familiarity with community support services and inter-agency collaboration is an advantage.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust with students and families from diverse backgrounds.
Empathetic, resilient, adaptable, and student-centred.
Able to handle sensitive and confidential information with maturity and discretion.
Able to work independently as well as collaboratively with a wider support team.
