3D Engineer
The 3D Engineer plays a critical role in transforming design concepts into production-ready digital models that meet both aesthetic and manufacturing requirements. The role bridges design and production by ensuring products are engineered for efficient manufacturing while maintaining design intent.
The incumbent possesses a strong understanding of CAD/CAM systems, manufacturing processes, material behaviour, and production constraints. He/She is detail-oriented, technically proficient, and capable of solving engineering challenges through innovation and collaboration. The 3D Engineer works closely with designers, production teams, and external vendors to optimise product quality, manufacturability, and production efficiency.
Duties & Responsibilities
Develop accurate 3D CAD models and engineering drawings for production, prototyping, and manufacturing.
Engineer products for manufacturability by evaluating design feasibility, production methods, tolerances, and material requirements.
Translate conceptual designs into production-ready files while preserving design intent and functionality.
Generate, validate, and optimise CAM toolpaths and machine-specific programs for CNC machining and other digital manufacturing processes.
Produce and evaluate prototypes using 3D printing, CNC machining, and other rapid prototyping technologies.
Collaborate closely with designers to refine product aesthetics while ensuring engineering and manufacturing requirements are achieved.
Work with Production and Quality teams to resolve technical issues, improve product quality, and minimise manufacturing defects.
Conduct engineering analysis and recommend design improvements to optimise cost, efficiency, durability, and production lead time.
Research and evaluate new manufacturing technologies, software, machinery, and materials to enhance production capabilities.
Maintain engineering documentation, technical drawings, revision histories, and product data in accordance with company standards.
Support new product development from concept through production, including engineering validation and pilot runs.
Ensure all engineering designs comply with internal quality standards, safety requirements, and manufacturing specifications.
Job Requirements
Minimum Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Precision Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent).
Experience with CAD/CAM workflows, CNC machining, and additive manufacturing (3D printing) is preferred.
Good understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerancing, and manufacturing processes.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and visualisation skills with excellent attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced production environment.
Good communication skills with the ability to collaborate across Design, Production, and Quality teams.
