CNC Technician - #1160710
3M
Responsible for setting up, operating, and optimizing CNC equipment—specifically 5-axis milling and CNC lathes—to produce high-quality components to specification. The role requires the ability to read and interpret G and M code, propose and implement program edits, and ensure correct tooling, speeds, and feeds for various materials.
Job Description
Primary Responsibilities
Set up and operate CNC machines, including 4-5 axis mills and lathes, for a range of operations (drilling, reaming, boring, tapping, spot facing, countersinking).
Read, translate, and verbalize G and M code; recognize issues and propose edits to correct both milling and lathe programs.
Run new parts during early-stage trials; recommend sequencing changes, tooling adjustments, and program revisions to stabilize processes.
Edit programs to achieve correct radius, contours, and angles; ensure optimal feeds, speeds, and tooling selection per material to maximize efficiency and part quality.
Write simple programs for fixtures and tooling (considered a plus).
Troubleshoot 5-axis milling and CNC lathe performance; take corrective actions to ensure machines run true and within tolerance.
Use and maintain all required tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and hand tools; verify tooling sharpness and alignment before and during production.
Work to close tolerances and fine finishes; execute complex prototypes and first-article builds in compliance with internal process specifications and third-party requirements.
Perform compliant troubleshooting of tools, fixtures, and equipment; ensure product quality, equipment care, housekeeping, and adherence to schedules and output targets.
Follow all safety procedures; use appropriate PPE; adhere to EHS rules and responsibilities.
