Test Engineer - #1159813

Heptagon Photonics Pte Ltd.

Date: 1 hour ago
District: Singapore
Contract type: Full time
Work schedule: Full day
Heptagon Photonics Pte Ltd.

Test Engineering is a critical capability that enables Heptagon to validate product performance and ensure that wafer-level optics and optical modules meet required functional and optical specifications. As new product technologies and customer requirements continue to grow, additional Test Engineering resources are necessary to develop new test capabilities, evaluate testing feasibility, and support timely product qualification. Insufficient test development capacity may lead to delays in product introduction, reduced responsiveness to customer inquiries, and limited capability to support emerging technologies. Furthermore, Test Engineering is responsible for designing scalable and cost-efficient test systems for high-volume manufacturing, ensuring measurement reliability, optimized throughput, and efficient capital investment. Strengthening Test Engineering headcount is therefore essential to sustain product development timelines, maintain product quality, and support the company’s long-term technology and manufacturing roadmap.

Without adequate Test Engineering resources, the organization risks delays in product qualification, reduced responsiveness to customer requirements, and limitations in supporting future technology development and manufacturing scalability.

Job Responsibilities

1. Test Development, Process Improvement and Industrialization

  • Develop, characterize, and implement test solutions for both new and existing products to support internal and customer functional test requirements. Define and apply effective test concepts and methodologies from product development through mass production.

  • Design and develop test hardware, fixtures, and jigs for functional testing of wafer-level optics and optical module packages, ensuring robustness, measurement reliability, reusability, and cost effectiveness.

  • Develop and optimize test programs based on product specifications to ensure sufficient test coverage, high yield performance, and efficient throughput (UPH) suitable for high-volume manufacturing.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance test throughput, improve yield performance, reduce invalid rejects, and prevent product escapes. Implement robust test methodologies to evaluate key optical and functional parameters, including but not limited to MTF, FOV, FOI, Uniformity, Relative Illumination, Blemish, SNR, etc.

  • Prepare and maintain required documentation for NPI-to-Mass Production handover, including Test Specifications, SOPs/Work Instructions, and Control Plans. Conduct training for manufacturing and equipment personnel to ensure proper operation and sustainment of test processes.

2. Equipment Support

  • Interface and collaborate with equipment vendors in the design, development, and implementation of test hardware and software solutions. Coordinate system upgrades, performance improvements, and troubleshooting activities to ensure equipment capability meets product and manufacturing requirements.

  • Maintain and improve equipment uptime and process stability through preventive maintenance planning, systematic troubleshooting, and continuous performance monitoring.

  • Support factory digitization initiatives by integrating inspection and test equipment data with manufacturing systems such as MES using industry communication standards (e.g., SECS/GEM, OPC-UA, MQTT). Ensure proper traceability, recipe genealogy, and electronic record integrity across manufacturing processes.

3. Metrology and Quality Control

  • Implement and monitor Statistical Process Control (SPC), control plans, and real-time monitoring dashboards. Define inspection strategies with cross-functional stakeholders and drive timely actions to address process trends, excursions, and alarms.

  • Design and execute Measurement System Analysis (MSA) and Gage R&R studies to validate measurement capability. Define guard-bands, develop golden samples and reference libraries, and establish robust change-control and version management for testing.

  • Develop and maintain process control documentation including Control Plans, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Out-of-Control Action Plans (OCAP) to ensure process robustness and effective response to process deviations.

4. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with optics design, packaging, and reliability teams to ensure testing methodologies and manufacturing processes are aligned with product performance requirements.

  • Support New Product Introduction activities, including the transfer of processes, test methodologies, and equipment from R&D development to high-volume manufacturing.

  • Provide technical guidance and engineering support to manufacturing and operations teams during product ramp-up and sustaining phases to ensure stable and efficient production performance.

Basic Requirements

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Optical/Photonics / Electrical / Electronics Engineering, Physics, or related discipline.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience (Engineer) or 6+ years (Senior Engineer) in Test Engineering, preferably in optics, photonics, or optical module testing. Experience in semiconductor or electronics manufacturing environments is also highly desirable.

  • Hands-on experience in test system development and qualification, including hardware integration, troubleshooting of test equipment, and debugging of test programs.

  • Project and stakeholder management experience, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate with internal and external stakeholders. Experience working with test equipment vendors for technical evaluation, system integration, and vendor selection is preferred.

Knowledge and Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with optical test systems such as Trioptics (IMPRO / IMHR), NTS, Alfamation, or similar equipment used for optical testing in wafer-level or singulated modules.

  • Experience in testing wafer level optics products as well as camera modules, various types of optical sensor modules for consumer electronics applications.

  • Experience in test program development, automation, and debugging using programming environments such as LabVIEW, Python, and C/C++.

  • Ability to design and set up laboratory experiments and proof-of-concept (POC) test benches using NI platforms, optical metrology equipment, and software tools for characterization and feasibility studies.

  • Strong data analytics capability using tools such as Python, MATLAB, Excel, or equivalent, with the ability to analyze large datasets and derive actionable insights for process and test improvements.

  • Proficiency in Measurement System Analysis (MSA), Gage R&R, FMEA, and structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, 5-Why, and Fishbone analysis. Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC), Design of Experiments (DOE), and failure analysis techniques is highly desirable.

  • Experience with statistical analysis and process improvement tools such as JMP, Minitab, or equivalent platforms.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical concepts, data analysis results, and engineering recommendations effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Professional Qualities

  • Analytical and problem-solving mindset, able to identify root causes and implement effective engineering solutions.

  • Strong ownership and accountability, able to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Collaborative and team-oriented, able to work effectively across cross-functional teams including R&D, PMO, manufacturing, quality, and external vendors.

  • Proactive and continuous improvement driven demonstrate initiative in identifying opportunities to improve test capability, manufacturing efficiency, cost and product quality.

  • Adaptability and learning agility, with the ability to quickly understand new technologies, products, and testing methodologies and execute.
