Senior/Exercise Trainer
Location: AMK
Client: Not for Profit organisation
Working hours: Based on Rostering – 5 day week
Monday - Thursday: 8.30am - 6pm
Friday - 8.30am-5.30pm
Saturday: 8.30am - 1pm
Job Description
The senior exercise trainer is responsible for designing and implementing fitness programs tailored to individuals with disabilities and chronic conditions. This role involves creating a safe, inclusive and supportive environment that encourages clients to achieve their physical fitness and functional goals.
The senior exercise trainer is also responsible for mentorship of the team, and handling more complex responsibilities apart from just implementing the services.
Job Responsibilities:
Program Development and Delivery
Assess clients’ fitness levels, physical abilities and limitations through consultations and evaluations.
Design and implement customised programs focused on improving strength, cardiovascular fitness and endurance, mobility and overall health.
Adapt exercises and equipment usage to accommodate clients’ needs (including physical, sensory or cognitive challenges).
Collaboration and Communication
Work closely with healthcare professionals, clients and caregivers to align fitness programs with therapeutic plans.
Maintain clear, professional communication with clients and their available support networks.
Client Interaction
Provide 1:1 or 1:group training sessions while ensuring a safe and motivating environment.
Educate clients about proper techniques, postures and movement to prevent injury.
Monitor progress, adjust fitness programs as needed to meet evolving goals.
Safety and Risk Management
Ensure proper use and maintenance of equipment.
Implement safety protocols and respond promptly to emergencies.
Stay updated on best practices for adaptive training to minimize risk and maximise client outcomes.
Administrative and Program Related Duties
Engage in professional development
Perform data entry and report generation
Documentation of clients’ sessions and progress
Any other duties as assigned by the reporting officer
Supervision and Mentorship
Takes on formal/ informal leadership role within the team, helping to shape the facilities’ training strategy
Handles escalated clients’ concerns or issues
Mentor and support junior trainers, offering guidance on program development and client management
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy/ Exercise Science or related field
Certification from a recognised fitness organization (e.g. ACSM, ACE, NASM) will be an added advantage
Minimum 2 years relevant experience as fitness trainer, therapy associate or similar role and at least 5 years of relevant experience to be considered a senior
Good team player
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and Saturdays
Good understanding of anatomy, physiology and exercise science
Good team player
Dynamic and proactive personality with good public relation and communication skills
Passionate in serving the community, high level of motivation and enthusiasm for fitness/ healthcare industry
