What this job involves:
As a Design Manager at JLL, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating design activities across commercial real estate projects, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, functional, and aesthetically pleasing spaces that meet client requirements and industry standards while requiring strong leadership, technical expertise, and project management skills to oversee design teams and collaborate with various stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. This comprehensive design management role combines creative leadership with strategic project coordination, requiring you to lead multidisciplinary design teams including architects, engineers, interior designers, and consultants while developing and implementing design strategies aligned with project objectives and client vision. You will play a crucial role in JLL's commitment to design excellence by reviewing and approving design deliverables, ensuring quality and compliance with standards while coordinating design activities across multiple projects simultaneously and mentoring junior design staff to foster professional development.
What your day-to-day will look like:
Lead multidisciplinary design teams including architects, engineers, interior designers, and consultants across commercial projects
Develop and implement design strategies aligned with project objectives and client vision while ensuring quality deliverables
Review and approve design deliverables, ensuring quality and compliance with standards while coordinating multiple projects
Collaborate with project managers, construction teams, and client stakeholders while managing design schedules and timelines
Facilitate design reviews and stakeholder meetings while ensuring design integration with MEP, structural, and building systems
Ensure compliance with building codes, zoning regulations, and accessibility standards while reviewing technical specifications
Present design concepts and proposals to clients and senior management while incorporating feedback into solutions
Conduct site visits and design validation assessments while staying current with industry trends and sustainable practices.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Engineering, or related field with professional license (PE, RA, or equivalent) preferred
Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial real estate design or construction with proven track record managing complex design projects
Experience with office buildings, retail spaces, industrial facilities, or mixed-use developments with team leadership experience
Proficiency in design software (AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite) with strong understanding of building systems
Knowledge of building codes, zoning laws, and regulatory requirements with familiarity in sustainable design principles (LEED, BREEAM)
Excellent leadership and team management skills with strong communication and presentation abilities
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and problem-solving capabilities for multiple project coordination
Client service orientation and business acumen with ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree in relevant field with experience in specific property types (office, retail, industrial, healthcare)
International project experience with additional certifications in project management (PMP) or sustainable design
Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes and knowledge of construction contracts and procurement processes
Project management software experience (MS Project, Primavera) with design changes oversight and version control
Understanding of materials, finishes, and building systems evaluation for suitability and performance assessment
Knowledge of regulatory authorities coordination and approval processes with design-related client expectations management
Experience mentoring junior design staff and fostering professional development with multidisciplinary team leadership
Understanding of emerging technologies and industry trends with sustainable design practices and construction methods knowledge.
