Genetic Counsellor - #1108557

We are hiring on behalf of the Paediatrics department in a well-known hospital. The incumbent will support doctors in caring for patients with personal or family histories of birth defects or genetic conditions by providing information, counselling, and emotional support. He/She also helps manage and coordinate assigned research projects within the division.

Job Scope:

• Conduct patient interviews to gather comprehensive family and medical histories

• Construct complete pedigrees based on intake information

• Evaluate genetic data to identify individuals/families at risk of inherited conditions

• Explain complex genetic, medical, and technical information in an accessible manner to patients and families

• Provide non-directive counselling to support informed decision-making on genetic testing, disease prevention, and management options

• Assess family dynamics and address patients’ emotional and psychological responses to genetic information

• Prepare detailed consultation reports to communicate relevant genetic findings to the healthcare team

• Connect patients with relevant support resources and research opportunities in the medical community

• Support the planning and coordination of assigned research projects and activities

• Stay updated on developments in genetics and genomics by participating in professional conferences and organizations

• Undertake additional duties as assigned by Reporting Officer

Job Requirements:

• Masters in Genetic Counselling or equivalent

• Proficient in MS Office applications

• Strong analytical and communication skills

• Experience in counselling

• Positive, motivated and able to perform under pressure
