The Role

The Head of Projects & Store Design is responsible for leading the planning, development, and execution of all physical retail projects — including new store openings, renovations, and closures — across our Cold Storage & Giant stores. This role oversees end-to-end project and design management, ensuring that every store build reflects the company’s operational requirements, brand identity, and customer expectations. The position requires strong technical expertise in project delivery, and a forward-thinking approach to retail design and development.

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Management

• Develop and implement overall plan for construction and store design in alignment with corporate goals.

• Lead the long-term planning and execution of new stores, store remodels and store closure projects.

• Create and manage budgets for all construction and design related activities, ensuring financial efficiency and cost control.

• Manage the annual capital expenditure budget for store development, ensure accurate forecasting and tracking of project costs.

• Establish project timelines and ensure adherence to schedules, mitigating risks and addressing issues proactively.

• Lead cost reduction initiatives through design rationalization, procurement strategies, and process efficiencies.

Project Management

• Set project governance and performance frameworks to ensure all projects meet targets in terms of cost, quality, safety and timeline.

• Communicate project status, challenges, and solutions effectively to senior management and other stakeholders.

• Lead the Projects & Design Team and ensure that all projects are on track with budget and timeline, ensure quality and safety standards are met.

• Foster strong relationships with external vendors and regulatory bodies to facilitate smooth project execution.

• Ensure compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards across all projects.

• Conduct post-project reviews to benchmark performance and identify cost and process improvement opportunities.

• Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing team of project & design managers/ executives.
